Work from Home Comes with Aches and Pains

Working from home has become the new normal for a lot of people, especially since COVID-19. While it does have a number of benefits, working from home can also carry with it a number of aches and pains. If you have been working from home and notice that you seem to have more aches and pains than normal, there are some ways you can reduce those. If you live in Maryland and need relief from the pain of working at home, you can find it at Comprehensive Spine and Sports Center. Below are some tips to help beat the aches and pains of remote work, as provided by a physical therapist in Carney.

Work from Home…Comfortably

Your Home Office

Look at your home office set up and see if it is ergonomically designed to prevent aches and pains. Are your computer screen and keyboard set at the right height to prevent neck and wrist strain? Is your chair providing you the best support? Correcting any issues here will go a long way toward reducing aches and pains.

Take Regular Breaks

Make sure you are taking regular breaks during your workday. When working from home, you may be tempted to just push through; however, it’s important to give yourself breaks during the day where you step away from your workstation. Set an alarm to remind you every hour to get up and stretch or walk around for a minimum of 30 seconds. Reset your posture when you sit back down.

Stretch Your Body

Here are a couple of stretches you can do at home to relief the aches and pains of remote work.

  • Doorway stretch you the doorframe to help stretch your shoulders and back when you’ve been sitting for a prolonged period of time.
  • Seated hamstrings stretch: When you are seated, you can extend your legs one at a time to stretch your hamstrings. This will help prevent your legs from becoming stiff while sitting at your workstation.

Consult a Physical Therapist in Carney

Utilizing these techniques can help reduce or eliminate the aches and pains from telework or work from home.
